Use the pan to get a 5 cup volume then pour 3 cup volume of it into the drinking glass leaving 2 cup volume in the pan. do tis 2 times n u get 4 cups volume.

which adds up to a total of 8 cups, and will take out half from it

This will put four cups of hunny back into the hive. But I do not know the movie.
If he fills the glass half full he will have 1.5 cups. If he fills the pan half full, he will have 2.5 cups. Together, this will total 4 cups — the exact amount he needs.
