As of right now, the vet. is not an option seeing that i have no transportation whatsoever until sunday.
My dog is placing her paws on her mouth and rubbing at her teeth.. the only evidence i can find is a stick that is broken up into shavings. This might be the problem but I can’t check inside her mouth (I fear i might hurt her or startle her and she may become aggressive, although she is not aggressive towards anyone living in the household normally.)
I gave her half of an ibuprofen tablet wrapped in a slice of turkey to ease her pain..
Does anyone know where i can find information on any canine mouth injuries?
My observations have led me to believe it could be any of the following: Bee sting, bite, object stuck in the gum, adult teeth growing in. I am almost sure that it is a wood chip, but i cant be certain until she will let me look.
Does anyone have any similar experiences?
What can I do in the meantime?
I gave her a saucer of milk, just incase poison is ivolved (very highly doubt) but she seemed to enjoy the drink.
RE, The answers posted about the Ibuprofen, this was not a large dosage I only gave her half of an over the counter prescription (I know Ibuprofen can be very dangerous when given in large amounts or more than once or twice. (Once again, why i gave her half).
It seems to be helping her pain, she is laying down and not pawing at her mouth as frequently. She is more relaxed, I know my vet very well and I am prepared to get in touch with him at home at any time.
Still waiting to get a closer look at the mouth, she still wags her tail when i speak to her but she would not let me put ice anywhere near the mouth.
Any other information on what i can do in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.

Ibuprofen is toxic to dogs. Are you trying to help her or kill her?!?!?!? Do they have busses or taxis where you live?

Just watch her and if she starts messing with her mouth then tell her to stop. Try to find fast transportation as soon as you can.

You definitly need to get this dog to a vet, I work in an animal hospital and I have seen dogs with sticks stuck in their mouth…if this is the case you could have a nasty infection to clear up, and also the discomfort for the dog would be horrible…i would at least call a vet hospital and speak to a doctor so they can tell you what drugs if any to give as well as give you some ideas of what could be the problem

It is unfortunate that you can’t take your dog to the vet until Sunday. If she does have something stuck in her mouth she will remain extremely uncomfortable until it is removed. This usually involves the dog being sedated or placed under general anesthesia to get a good look in the mouth and to remove the foreign object if indeed something is stuck in the mouth. The longer it stays in the mouth it increases the risk for infection or it may be more difficult to remove the foreign object. So basically finding information on canine mouth injuries won’t do much. You should seek transportation as soon as possible to get to the vet. I know in some areas there are some vets that offer house calls or some companies that offer transportation service so check the yellow pages. That will be the best thing to do for your dog so he can be comfortable. Also don’t give your dog ibuprofen anymore for pain because it has the potential to cause severe gastric ulcers and bleeding which will lead to additional problems for your dog. Good luck.

My vet has told me that the only people pain medicine you should give a dog is buffered aspirin. My German Shepard is 60 lbs so I give her 1 normal (I think 225mg) coated aspirin per day. Please be very careful what kind of people meds you give to a pet. They metabolize meds differently than us.
My Shepard, who is about 4, has been rubbing the side of her mouth and teeth for at least a year. I have not found anything wrong nor has her vet. Just sometimes she rubs. So maybe there’s nothing wrong with your dog I hope. Is her mouth so painful that she just won’t let you touch that area? My advice to you is to take her to her vet as soon as you can get her there. One of my dogs got a cactus needle in her mouth… luckily, between my daughter and I we were able to take it out, by her sitting on her and holding her, while talking to her to calm her and I was able to look in her mouth, and pulled it out with tweezers. If your dog trusts you, do it like that, with help from another family member, and talking always calmly and gently, she may try to get away, but just keep talking to her, tell her she is a good girl, and that everything is going to be ok. Your voice should be enough to soothe her. Whenever I take my dog to the vet, and they are going to do something that he doesn’t like, that’s what I do… and it always ends up ok. Good luck to her.
