Bozo was awesome. i used to dream about playing the Grand Prize Game. i knew that i could win all that neat crap they used to give away. oh yeah, and the cartoons rocked too. altough, i never did like cookie, he kind of sucked.
Yes!!! I grew up on the South Side and now live in Texas. Over Christmas, WGN did a BOZO/Garfield Goose special and it was great. Did you also watch GiggleSnort Hotel? No one here knows what I’m talking about.
I remember Romper Room, but only very vaguely…”I see Billy and Betty and…” – that’s about it. I do remember I made a picture to send to them, and when my mom put it in an envelope and addressed it, I wrote on the envelope. She said she couldn’t send it – I cried – she crushed my dream! I wonder if she ever did? I’m going to ask her.
No, we didn’t have Bozo or Romper Room. We had “Cactus Jim”. He was a local “cowboy” who introduced cartoons and told us to drink our milk. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
I remember these shows very well. I couldn’t leave out the door to go to school until I did the “Buzz buzz do bee dance.” Bozo was great too. I always wondered though why would some parents forced a scared kid to play the grand prize game. The kid would be crying, Mr. Ned would try to move the show along and I kept thinking that if I had the chance to win some of those Maurice Lenell’s cookies I wouldn’t be crying. Do you remember the magic arrow. It was used to pick a kid to play the game. If you remember these shows, you probably remember Gigglesnort Hotel with Mother Plumtree. I loved me some Mother Plumtree. She kinda looked like a pig in drag though. Thanks for memories.
When I was a little boy. It was broadcast from 1954 to 1994. Each show ended with the hostess gazing into the ‘Magic Mirror’ (just a mirror frame) and saying (changing the names each day): “Magic Mirror, tell me today, are all my friends at home at play?” “I see Mary and Hank and Tommy and Virginia and Hannah and all you boys and girls out there!” [She never said my name!]
Yes! We had both! On Romper Room they used to show an outline of a picture for several minutes (while singing or telling a story) that we could trace onto paper and color in later.
Every day I watched…and waited…hoping…praying…that maybe, just maybe…she might finally see me, DENA, when she looked through that mirror at the end of the show. One of my biggest heartbreaks as a child…SHE NEVER DID!! I just couldn’t figure out how she could manage to see my stupid sister, LISA, about once a week…we were sitting on the same couch!!
SORRY I CAN NOT REMEMBER THT FAR BACK

Romper Room ruled! At the end when Miss Elizabeth would look in her magic mirror and the end of each show. I always waited for her to say my name.
