They are big, black and yellow and like to eat (burrow) in the wood and right now are attacking my yard barn. We have tried chemicals and home remedies. I know they don’t sting but they scare the children.

Soapy water sprayed directly on them will put them out of your misery.

Yes they will sting. I have saved my dead batteries AA and AAA they are the right size for the holes. Wait for the bee to enter and plug the hole. It will die within 36 hours. Wood peckers do a good job but are a bit messy.

i used to do pest control. the bees are carpenter bees. they are tough to get rid of. here’s what you have to do. go to Lowe’s or equivalent type store, a farm supply store will be good too. get a compressed air sprayer 1 gallon size (hand pump type, cost about 15 dollars). get a bottle of diazonon or similar product. get a 1/2 ” wood dowel and wood glue. get a bag of sevin dust.
mix spray according to directions, about 1-2 oz. chem to 1 gal of water and spray all around and inside holes. saw dowel into 1″ lengths, plug holes. about a day later, if weather is dry, throw sevin dust around holes.
you might have to repeat this procedure during the summer to keep them gone.
or you can pay a pest control service about 100 dollars to do it for you.
these bees are a nightmare. i have dealt with a lot of them.
