My parents are convinced that “the only person that does anything around here is_(insert my sister’s name.) The thing is is that I clean house, wash dishes, do laundry, empty trash, cook, help in the garden, can, and sew everybody’s clothes (we wear dresses only and make a lot of our own clothes). Not to mention the fact that I am the only one in the house that vacuums (except my mom occasionally). The problem is that I do other things that nobody is interested in, like reading and studying languages, and yes, I fool around on the computer, mostly because I like to look stuff up and learn about things. If I had “useful” hobbies, then it wouldn’t be that way. Her hobbies are things like needlework, beekeeping, etc. They produce tangible results, whereas languages just don’t have any purpose. The thing is, I will ask her to please tell me when she’s going to work in the garden because that’s her forte and she’s the one that knows what’s going on a decides what to plant. I’m not so good at that, so I need to know what needs to be done. Well, half the time, I’ll look out the window and happen to see that she’s out there, so I have to rush out there to help, and I’m looking like a jerk because she’s been out there so long. There are plenty of times that I go and work in the garden by myself, but all I ever hear about is how ___is the only one who does the garden.
I don’t know how to make people realize that I do do alot of work. Not everything I do in my spare time is what they would do.
So, do I give up my hobbies, so I look more industrious, or do I just ignore them?
