It’s a ’95…so pretty old, I know–but it’s worked fine up until the last few days.
The only thing I’ve installed lately was a Nancy Drew Mystery video game type deal…it was a few days ago. It started to just randomly made this really high pitched solid ‘beeeeeeeeeeeeeep’ and would just turn off. (It did that twice)
I was on it last night and I shut it off correctly like I always do and turned in for the night. I woke up and plugged it back in and pushed the power button.
A black screen comes up with ‘COMPAQ’ in red letters and after a few moments ‘F12=Network Service Boot’ comes up in the bottom right corner.
Then it goes to a black screen with ‘Initializing Intel Boot Agent Version 2.6 (build 004)’ in the top left corner.
Then a black screen with the usual options of ‘We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start succesfully’ blah, blah and then the five options
Safe Mode
Safe mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration
Start Windows Normally
and such. No matter what I push (I’ve tried them all) The usual ‘Microsoft WindowsXP’ with the little bar under it loading. It loads and then a blue screen comes up that says:
Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure)
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
SystemRootSystem32ConfigSOFTWARE
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writeable.
Beggining dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for future assistance.
And then it starts all over to the black screen with ‘COMPAQ’ and it repeats all over again.
I don’t have anything SUPER important…just a few word documents I’d like not to loose and over 1,000 songs on iTunes.
Any help would be much appeciated!
And as far as ‘Best Answer’ is concerned, if two people give me the exact same answer and it works…and one of them is in English and not ridiculously smart computer person language, the English one would win…
Thanks again! (=
God bless~
