Top Bar Hive Inspection June 4 2011 Part 2 of 2

7 week old bees. I remove some drone comb. The weather has not been kind to the bees. They were out in full force today. Warm air and fair weather with little wind has allowed the bees to go do their jobs. I think the video caught some waggle dancing. I also check drone larvae for mites.

Part One:- Checking for American Foulbrood in a Top Bar Hive

It is a legal requirement to have each hive checked for American Foulbrood regularly. This video shows you how to check your ‘wet brood’ in a TopBar Hive.
Video Rating: 5 / 5

This new (empty) top bar hive had a swarm installed in it on Saturday, 9 April 2011. The swarm colony swarmed again from this hive on 2 May 2011, was captured, and installed in a nearby new Langstroth hive. What you see here are the bees that remained in this hive (with numerous queen cells and 16 bars of comb filled with brood, honey and pollen) after it swarmed. As you can see, it remains a strong colony.

giles finishes the bee hive. this hive is not for intensive honey production although a few jars would be welcome if the bees can spare them. it is intended, in our case, for conservation. for more information go to www.biobees.com
