9 Year Old Beekeeper Installs Package Bees

A 9 Year Old Beekeepers first time installing a package of bees in a 10 frame hive. This 9 year old wants to be a beekeeper and has been reading beekeeping books and watching about beekeeping on Youtube along with helping her papa with the bees. We picked up a three lb package of Italian honeybees with a marked queen. There are as many ways of installing bees in a hive as there are beekeepers I think. After watching many different videos and people install bees and considering her size, age, experience and abilities, we decided on using the method that Katia and Doug Vincent of “The BeeKind Store” use in Sebastopol, CA. as seen on this video: www.youtube.com Thanks Doug and Katia! It worked beautifully especially considering the cool, wet weather we are having this weekend. This method made one little 9 year old as excited as I have seen her and a smile from ear to ear :) We also are going with foundationless frames to see how this will work out. We have done a lot of research into this and find it very interesting. Michael Bush of Bush Farms ( www.youtube.com ) and Dee Lusby ( www.youtube.com )have a lot of information on this also. Thanks Dee and Michael!
