3 weeks after installing the bees, they have the 1st hive body full of comb. I am inspecting the comb, and looking for the queen. I should have marked her prior to installation, because I did not find her. I did find eggs and larva, so I know shes in there. This inspection too quite a while, because I was determined to find the queen, so some of the inspection of the frames has been lapsed out.

I’m a novice gardener. I planted some butterfly bushes last summer, which bloomed beautifully, but I just left them after the frost. I’ve been reading that I should have cut them down to the ground in the early winter. Is it too late to do it now? Should I wait until spring? Also have the same issue with some bee balm I planted. thanks!

Took delivery of a swarm late one evening. The swarm officer reckoned there was a high chance they might abscond, so we put the Queen excluder at the bottom and paper on top. Next day my beekeeping mentor helped me tidy up the hive, put a queen excluder on top as well, and put a feeder on top to induce them to stay. Once the queen starts laying eggs they will stay. She can’t start laying until the workers make comb.
