One of our hives died in winter ’09. We figure and unusual cold spell kept them form moving to their food. This shows us opening the hive, taking the combs out, hoping to find bees alive. There were none. This was early spring and our 1st look inside. A great visual of the top bar hive inside, how the comb is built, honey stored, propolis, and more.
The Craftsman Experience welcomes Eric Michalsen and Nathan Sellers of Primitive skills Chicago to teach how to build a top-bar beehive. They talk about the ins and outs of their hive in addition to rules and regulations associated with owning one. Afterwards an amateur beekeeper of the Chicago Park District discusses everything that goes into owning bees and how to use an extractor to obtain honey from a comb.
