Kenyan Top Bar Hive Demo with Sam Comfortvin Dean North Community Garden, BedStuy, Bklyn

Honey Bees are not aggressive. Watch Sam Comfort handle these bees in a top bar hive bare armed with no protection and no smoke!

This colony of bees was a captured swarm that was placed in this new (empty) hive on 9 April 2011. By 25 April they had drawn 14 bars of near perfect comb, and had capped brood and honey stored throughout. On 2 May, it swarmed and what you see are bees from the remaining colony. Inside we observed several capped queen cells, capped brood, including areas of drone brood, and capped honey/sugar syrup. Incidentally, the swarm that left on 2 May was captured and placed in another hive.

Bee Keeping in Bogoria

A look at how bee keeping around Lake Bogoria is providing income for the community and relieving pressure on the environment

What careers do you think are good for someone able to go to a 2 year school?

I’m 21 and I know 4 year college isn’t right for me. I currently work with special needs clients in a group home and the community. I’m interested in working with children and have experience. I also have a great interest in beekeeping and cheesemaking. In addition I am interested in renewable and green living/energy. Let me know what you think.
